Day 20: Cape Girardeau, MO - Farmington, MO

Elevation Profile

Day 20, and now also crossed the 2000 km border. But the day was anything but good. The efforts of recent days and the bad weather have left their mark, and then still large-scale road closures were due to flooding, which I have not really motivated. And so it was on the alternate route quite a lot of today, the landscape was not so bad, but not just to enjoy. Through patience I've developed about 75 km, before once again goes down by a fierce thunderstorm. I make it just yet save me from a church roof in a flight, and decide to sit out there. After about an hour when I doze off several times because of my fatigue, it looks brighter again, and I decide to put my car away again. But this was obviously a mistake, because after 5 minutes it starts to rain heavily again and does it really strong. Hagel also is back and back again. I decide at km 80, when I with a strong wind and thunderstorms continue to push me hills to hills, to catch a ride. Almost 9 km pass, available until the first car is. A pick-up with semi-trailer with craftsmen. You are on the way to Farmington, MO, and can take me. The wheel is in the trailer, me too, because in the cabin no more room. I do not care, I'm wet and tired, and I am glad that I bring the boys to the motel. There chatted briefly, and then checked. Tomorrow is rest day announced, because I'm slowly leached real, and must fill up once a day power. Morning, it is then a few anecdotes, but today I slept right after you check in 3 hours, and now I'm tired again, but I wanted to clean at least make a small report!

Day 19: Harrisburg, IL - Cape Girardeau, MO

Elevation Profile

According to the latest bad weather today was really nice going on. After a few kilometers I have a rail to trail bike path discovered, an old railway line which was converted into a bike path. The coating was indeed fine gravel, but through the trees left and right, the influence of the wind greatly reduced. After 50 miles on this trail we continued relatively hilly, always a little up and down in the west. I must find some way to the heavy rains flooded very much, fields, forests, etc.
In Anna, IL Subwaypause was then announced, which confirmed the warning of his uncle. A hillbilly asked me why so flagged, and not otherwise, because "nothing goes over the U.S." and so on. Yes, no matter, I will just go back down the U.S. flag taken, because I have no desire for such discussions.
After the break it went very well continue, but you have certainly noticed the hook in the current track. Because of the many floods some roads are blocked and the lock I was just at the turning point made by a friendly gentlemen attention. Luckily I was not too far, and the wind has pushed on the way back, so thought that the loss of time is limited.
But then began the ordeal, had the last 30 km of the day I fight against severe headwinds, the speed fell partly to 14 km / hr. Since I was really happy when I finally was able to cross the Mississippi, and have reached my destination, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The trip across the Mississippi River bridge, one can imagine the way, as if they crossed the Danube on the hard shoulder of the South East tangent.
A good deed I have to also report: The most common of these are counter-Road Kills in turtles (!!). When I go up a slope, I see a turtle on its top, which goes straight on the road. Fortunately, no cars, so I've worn them on the road, and then also taken.
The worst moment is that is flooded on my route for tomorrow is a pretty place, and thus even on television. Since Friday, just about 30 inches of rain have fallen, and thus the whole country is under water. Super Great, if you are water-free roads. Now I have to reschedule for tomorrow maybe something that is just not so ideal. Well, let's see how is the weather, and how the roads are so on it. It's just incredibly frustrating, and accordingly I'm good humored. I'm so sorry if this entry is not equivalent to the usual quality, but now the tour is really under an unlucky star. At least it's me and the wheel well.

Day 18: Grayville, IL - Harrisburg, IL

Elevation Profile

Day 18 did not start so well. At 6 got up and found that it's raining hard. So cozy finish, and weather study. At 9 there will be less, so I'm waiting for something. Since there are severe weather warnings again, I decide to drive to Harrisburg, IL, before the storm raging in the early afternoon. At 9 the rain is actually weaker, and I leave. In the lobby I arouses a lot of attention, and I asked about my trip, and distribute the address to all of this weblog. Then it goes out into the light rain, but soon will be back stronger. After about 30 minutes the rain stops, however, as predicted, and it goes under thick clouds that are slowly lights very difficult then. I realize today that I have little substance, yesterday's dinner was not just an energy boost, and the legs feel like rubber. Fortunately, it is very flat, but also bring the smallest inclines me now out of step, and so I count every single kilometer until I'm finally at the finish. I am also incredibly tired, because I actually slept through since the start of the tour has never been really good. After 60 km it starts to rain again, and the first thunderstorms are beginning already. Tired, but happy I am to 13.30 in Harrisburg, and get me a room. When I'm in the room, it pours out there going strong, and it smelled too.
I have Skype with a bit of Heike, but I almost fall to the eyes, so I think just under 2 hours nap. Then buy Walmart, a few things and food for tomorrow, and then at Pizza Hut a large portion of spaghetti and salad buffet eaten, so that tomorrow's match the energy again. Now I'm back at the motel and plan the next day, and just write blog. Tut makes me sorry that nothing passierrt exciting, but slowly up a routine: wake up - breakfast - Cycling - Room Search - Skype & News - Sleep ...
Should fit the weather tomorrow, after which it currently stands, it goes to Cape Girardeau, which is already in Missouri.
